The Fourth Day

Lights in the Firmament

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Let’s break this up and interpret each part separately.

The lights in the firmament of heaven are symbols in the conscious mind whose light divide understanding from ignorance.

signs

The lights are for signs that let the Self know where it is on its journey, where it has been, and where it is going. In other words: what is, what was and what is to come. The lights are the key to prophecy.

seasons

seasons are a reference to the four seasons of:

evening/autumn, Night/winter morning/spring, Day/summer.

In the evening a seed of knowledge is planted.

In the Night the seed lays dormant.

In the morning the seed sprouts and grows.

In the Day the seed is harvested for food.

days

day spelt with a lower case d is a reference to the first three seasons of evening/autumn, Night/winter, morning/spring. This is the time when the Self is moved by desire.

years

A year represents the whole of the four seasons, which end with Day/summer, which is when desire is fulfilled and the Self reaps the pleasure of understanding, and the conquest of the darkness of ignorance.

Gen 1:15  And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

Interpretation:

The images in the conscious mind were to give light on the subconscious mind and that is what they did.

The Self could now see and understand what was emanating from the subconscious mind.

Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Interpretation:

And the Self made two great images: the greater image of the Self’s desire i.e. the Sun; to rule the day (the time of learning), and the Moon; the lesser light of understanding to rule over the darkness of ignorance.

The Self made the stars also. The stars are spirits of understanding that give their light. In the book of Revelation they are referred to as angels, of which there are seven leading or arch Angels. Arch because they are above all other angels. They are also known as the seven spirits of God/the Self.

The Angels of Heaven/the conscious mind, serve to enlighten, protect and guide the Self on its life journey.

Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

Interpretation:

And the Self set the two great lights in the conscious mind, to give the warmth of desire and the light of understanding to the things emanating from the subconscious mind, so that all knowledge would grow in grace. The Sun would represent the male aspect of the Self, and the Moon would represent the female aspect. Together they were making a beautiful world.

Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Interpretation:

And desire to rule over the day, and understanding to rule over ignorance: and the Self saw that it was good, i.e. righteous and pleasurable.

Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Interpretation:

And righteous desire was once again fulfilled, and it was the fourth day.
